Monday’s Blog: Sword of the Spirit (“Armor of Light” book release)
I released my second devotional book today on the Armor of God, titled “Armor of Light: A 7 – Week Devotional on Ephesians 6:10-18” (*see discount coupon code below). I wanted to share this excerpt with you from week six about taking up the sword of the spirit, God’s Word.
WEEK SIX
 Sword of the Spirit
… and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
~Ephesians 6:17
We can often get so caught up fighting with the devil that we neglect doing God’s will. We don’t have to continually fight the devil. That’s why all of the other armor is for defense, and only one piece is needed for offense—the sword of the Spirit (God’s Word).
When Jesus walked the earth, He didn’t constantly fight with Satan. Jesus came to do God’s will. When Satan tried to distract and tempt Him, Jesus didn’t ignore him. He used His authority, and the Word of God, to send Satan fleeing (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus drove Satan away by believing and speaking God’s Word.
It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.†With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak.
—2 Corinthians 4:13
When God first called me to follow Him and start writing, my family was attacked unmercifully. We were hit by one trial after another. The attacks were like nothing we had ever experienced before. They were so apparent that even others noticed we were being attacked. I thought for a moment that God was punishing us. I thought I misunderstood His calling and He was trying to stop me from writing.
But as the attacks continued, God opened my eyes and showed me that Satan was trying to distract me from doing God’s will. I was exhausting so much of my time and energy dealing with the messes that I didn’t have time to work on my writing. Once I realized what was happening, I stopped trying to fix the messes, and started focusing on God’s will. As I focused on God, and stood firm on His Word, Satan fled and the problems resolved.
God didn’t give us His Word just to send Satan fleeing. He gave us His Word to sanctify us and equip us to do His will.
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
—John 17:17
The Bible tells us that: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work†(2 Timothy 3:16-17). I’ve heard people say they don’t need to read the Bible daily because they’ve read it before. They say they already know right from wrong.
The Bible isn’t like a book that you read once and don’t need anymore. There is power in God’s Word. When we feed our minds and hearts with His Word, it gives us power in our spirits.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
—2 Corinthians 10:4
God’s Word tears down strongholds that we don’t know exist until we are in His Word. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.â€
God’s Word reveals the dark places in us. His Word opens our eyes to what’s truly in our hearts. God’s Word is life to our bodies, souls, and spirits. We need God’s Word more than we need food and water.
Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
—Matthew 4:4
There is power in believing and speaking the Word of God over our lives. “Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him†(Mark 11:23).
Jesus didn’t say if anyone “thinks†about moving the mountain. He said to “speak†to the mountain. Remember, Satan can’t read our minds. We can’t make him flee by just thinking the Word. We need to speak the Word!
Psalm 103:20 says, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word†(KJV). It says angels hearken to the “voice†of His Word. When we speak God’s Word, His angels take heed and minister to us, as they did to Jesus after He drove Satan away with God’s Word.
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ †Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
—Matthew 4:10-11

Here’s a review on the book from one of my editors, Steve Sawyer:
This is the second book I have edited for Amanda Beth. I am especially enamored with two things Amanda Beth does as an author that distinguish her writing from some other Christian authors I’ve read.
First, Amanda Beth immerses herself in her writing. She doesn’t preach, She shares her heart. When you read one of Amanda Beth’s books, you are getting a glimpse of her personal life, her joys, her struggles, her strongholds, and her victories. Her personal life and her experience with God as He teaches her and grows her are what you get in the pages of her books. And everyone can relate. She is a thirty-something, stay-at-home mother of four young kids. But her message is universal. In Armor of Light anyone can relate to her experiences and her relationship with Jesus.
The other thing I like about Amanda Beth’s writing is the way she weaves God’s word throughout her writing. I have read books by other Christian authors whose references to Holy Scripture are not much more than token verses, sprinkled haphazardly throughout the book. Not Amanda Beth. Her writing is based on Scripture. Amanda Beth uses her personal life experiences to justify God’s word for us, rather than using God’s word to justify her writing or her opinions or her interpretation or application of Scripture, which is often the case with other Christian authors I’ve read.
Amanda doesn’t just decide to pick a topic and write a book about it. Amanda takes her direction directly from God. I can guarantee Amanda Beth spent months in prayer and Bible study before she sat down at her keyboard to write the first word of Armor Of Light.
In this second book, Amanda Beth shares how and why the armor of light is a necessary robe we need to wear. “When we don’t stand for the truths in God’s Word,” Amanda Beth said, “we open the door to deception. Too many Christians today are not standing for God’s Word as complete truth. As a result, Satan has sown many lies within the body of Christ. The Bible warns us that it’s only going to get worse. We need to be on guard so we don’t fall into this deception.” In her book Amanda Beth shares how God can keep us on guard so we won’t fall into deception from the enemy.
I can recommend Armor of Light without reservation. It is an easy read with questions and scripture for meditating and deepening your enjoyment and application of God’s truths.

“The most important one,†answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.â€

My new book: “The LOVE Walk” Release & Giveaway!
The LOVE Walk
A 15 – Week Devotional on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
My devotional book “The LOVE Walk” was released yesterday on Amazon. It was inspired by the first blog series I did on “love” as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. I created the devotional to encourage and support people in their love walk. Each devotional focuses on a different characteristic of love:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails….”
Each chapter includes an encouragement, a prayer, verses to meditate on, and one verse to memorize. Additionally, at the end of each chapter there are questions to reflect on for personal evaluation or group study.
Today, I am giving away one signed copy of “The LOVE Walk” along with a “Love” cross to put on your shelf or desk as a reminder to continually walk in God’s love.
Yesterday, I shared an excerpt from “The LOVE Walk” at PTL.com. Follow this link to read “Week Ten – Love…does not delight in evil” Today, I want to share chapter thirteen with you.
WEEK THIRTEEN
Love… always hopes
 ~1 Corinthians 13:7
What are you placing your hope in? Are you placing it in your job? Your bank account? Your spouse? Your children? Your appearance? Your material possessions?
To put our hope in something means we need it to make us happy. If our hope is in our jobs and we lose them, we lose our hope. If our hope is in our spouses and they leave us, our hope leaves with them. If our hope is in our beauty and it fades, our hope fades with it.
Our hope needs to be in God because He is the only one who can permanently fulfill us.
And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
—Romans 5:5
God’s love never disappoints. But have you ever felt disappointed in God? I have. In the past, I would get disappointed if I trusted God to answer a prayer and He didn’t. I would get disappointed if I obeyed Him and didn’t see the right results. I would get disappointed if I was hit with a trial and He didn’t rescue me.
I thought my hope was in God, but I was often disappointed in Him. I soon realized I wasn’t placing my hope in God. I was placing it in my own expectations of Him.
When God called me to write my first book, I expected to write it and publish it right away. I was often disappointed when I was rejected by publishers and agents in the beginning. I thought if God told me to write a book He would open all the doors. It took awhile to see He was opening the doors; they just weren’t the ones I was knocking at. I wanted Him to do it my way. I didn’t like some of the doors He wanted me to go through. They often led to trials, lessons, and hard work.
Now looking back, those trials are what I needed to prepare me for what was ahead. Had all my hope been in God’s plan for me, I could have enjoyed those years of writing instead of being disappointed.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
—Romans 12:12
Thinking positive, praising God, and communing with Him keeps our hopes up. It helps us stay joyful while waiting on God to fulfill our desires.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
—Proverbs 13:12
I’ve experienced this verse many times in my life. Once was when I had to go back to work a few years after having my first child. I was devastated to go back and even tried to avoid it. I frequently asked God why He wasn’t providing for me to stay home.
As the years went by, and I had more children, I continued praying for God to help me afford to quit. I tried everything I could to stay happy and be a good employee while waiting on God to answer my request. But as time went on, I started losing hope and fell into depression. Losing hope made my heart sick.
As I clung to God, He brought me out of depression and opened the door for me to stay home. As I looked back I could see His provision was there all along. Through those years, God was working with us on our finances so we could afford one income.
God was also working in me during that time. He was teaching me to be faithful even when it hurts. He was teaching me to trust Him even when I wasn’t seeing results. He was teaching me to be happy even when there wasn’t anything going on to rejoice in.
During those years I learned valuable lessons I wouldn’t trade now for anything. More importantly, I learned my prayers were answered the moment I requested them. I just didn’t see it until after I received it.
God answers our prayers. We don’t see all the behind the scenes work He does to prepare for those answers. We have to remember His ways are far beyond ours. We only see what is in front of our eyes. God sees above and beyond. He sees the final outcome, which is why He asks us to place our hope in Him. We don’t have anything to be disappointed about when all our hope is in Him.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
—Romans 15:13
********************************************************
 Week Thirteen Love Walk: Hope
I encourage you this week to place your hope in God. Don’t focus on your outward circumstances. Face each trial with joy as you hope in Him. Cling to Him. Praise Him. And remember to be faithful even when you’re not seeing any results.
But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?
—Romans 8:24
Prayer For The Week:
Heavenly Father,
I praise You for giving me so much to be hopeful for. I know I will never be disappointed when I am trusting You. Help me remain faithful and continue doing Your will when the devil comes against me. Thank You that through Jesus I am an overcomer. I joyfully put my hope in You, my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.
In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Scriptures To Meditate On (pick one to memorize):
Romans 8:24; Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 18:2; Romans 15:13
Week Thirteen Reflection:
- Share how God revealed Himself to you this week as you placed your hope in Him.
- Do you have a prayer you are waiting to see answered?
- Don’t give up hope on your prayer. God knew what you needed before you even asked! Write a prayer praising Him that He has heard and answered your prayer according to His Word.

Monday’s Blog: Disappointments
Today is Labor Day. Summer is ending. School is starting up again. Last week I signed my kids up for a homeschool co-op group where they’ll be attending three classes a week through the school year. My kids were excited to sign up for their classes. But since there was limited space they had to make a list of their first, second, and third choice for each class. My boys got their first choice for all three classes. My daughter, however, ended up with three classes she didn’t want. Her excitement quickly turned to tears of disappointment.
It made me think about how many times we experience disappointments in life, as things don’t always work out the way we would like them to. I don’t believe it’s wrong to feel disappointed. The Bible tells us God comforts the downcast (2 Corinthians 7:6). The Bible also tells us God comforts us so we would comfort others who are disappointed with the comfort we have received from Him (2 Corinthians 1:4).
When we are disappointed we have one of two choices. We can receive God’s comfort and allow Him to lift us up by filling our hearts with hope that He will work it out. Or we can sulk in our sorrows and allow our disappointments to keep us down and make us bitter.
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
—Romans 5:5        Â
Hope keeps us trusting God to work our disappointments out for our benefit. Many times our expectations lead us to disappointments. We expect something to happen a certain way, but then we get disappointed when it doesn’t work out the way we planned. Hope, on the other hand, trusts that God gives us what we need, even when it’s not what we want.
For example, I searched for an agent for my book for almost two years. When I finally got an agent, God told me to walk away and self-publish, as that was clearly His plan. Suffice it to say I was deeply disappointed. I didn’t want to self-publish. I didn’t want to do all the work on my own. I have four children to care for. I didn’t understand why God would give me more work when I already had so much to do.
Despite my disappointment, I trusted God had a better plan. So I started to self-publish.  To make it easier on me, I found a self-publishing company that would do most of the work for me—design my interior and cover, and do the marketing. Just as I was about to pay for their services, God stopped me again and told me to do it on my own. Again, I became disappointed and started to question why God would make it so hard on me.
God ensured me He had a plan. He filled me up with hope as I waited to see how He was going to work it out.
God led my husband to design the cover and led me to do the interior. Both of us never designed a book before, but God was clearly with us. We saw God use our own hands to put it all together. I started to see why God wanted me to take this route. God wanted to give us something beyond our ability so we would come together as a team and rely only on Him. That way God would get all the glory instead of someone else.
God gave me what I needed to put my hope and trust in Him. He worked my disappointments out for my good. I may not understand everything right now, but I know His plan will be greater than I anticipate. If I would have let those disappointments keep me down and paralyze me, I wouldn’t have been able to move forward in the direction God wanted me to take.
Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.
—Psalm 119:116
I am happy to announce the book is now for sale at https://www.createspace.com/3652158. It will be coming soon to Amazon and other online retailers, as well as an ebook.

In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
—Psalm 22:4-5
If you are disappointed today, be encouraged that God will turn your disappointments around for your good if you put your trust and hope in Him alone.

**Prayer for the week**
Father,
We praise You that You comfort us when we are down. Thank You for filling us with hope as we trust You to work all things together for our good when we live for You. Help us not to let our disappointments keep us down and paralyze us from moving forward in Your will. Help us to cast all our cares, worries, and disappointments on You, and to put our trust solely in You.
We praise You in Jesus’ precious name, Amen!
